One South, is supported by a team of international development specialists with methodological and practice-specific expertise.
We build diverse teams to develop and carry out targeted and inclusive planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.
Many assignments rely on the support of our global network of in-country partners, as we believe that localizing research for development supports the sustainability of our impact.
Meet the team
Andrés Navarrete
Founding Member & Principal Consultant

Andrés has over 10 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning and has led evaluations for initiatives working in health, education, and advocacy in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He has advanced methods training and has significant experience in capacity building, facilitation, and research design. Andrés has numerous multi-country evaluations and has designed and facilitated several remote and in-person training courses for young professionals. Andrés currently leads the firm. He holds a MSc in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and a BA in Integrated Social Sciences with a specialization in research methods from Jacobs University Bremen.
Tariq Omarshah
Founding Member

Tariq has over 10 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning and has led evaluations for initiatives targeting health, education, gender and private sector development outcomes across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He is currently on a leave of absence from One South but continues to advise the firm on the implementation of its strategy. Tariq specializes in strengthening evidence use and fostering an evidence culture within philanthropic organizations . He has significant experience building and leading transdisciplinary teams. He holds a MSc in International Relations Theory from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Politics and History (IPH) with a specialization in research methods from Jacobs University Bremen.
Eva is a development management specialist. She provides monitoring and evaluation services to projects working in entrepreneurship, health and education and has supported a range of projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This has included projects supporting the economic empowerment of youth through digital inclusion, projects promoting improved teaching quality, and projects supporting health access for key populations. She has advanced methods training and significant experience in participatory methods of evaluation. She holds a MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Politics and History (IPH) with a specialization in research methods from Jacobs University Bremen.

James Gathogo
Consultant, MEL
(he/him)
James is a Consultant specializing in MEL. He has supported health, education, and entrepreneurship projects in Africa and Asia and has coordinated several large-scale and mixed-methods data collection activities for a range of evaluation designs. He has worked closely with in-country partners to co-design MEL processes and strengthen organization-wide MEL capacity. James has significant experience in capacity building, data analysis, project management, and logistics.
Marieke van Egmond
Research Advisor

Marieke holds a PhD in Cross-cultural psychology. Her research examines topics relating to education and psychology from a cross-cultural perspective. At One South, she has developed and adapted psychometric measures for evaluation of education and behavior change projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Marieke's work with One South has resulted in several peer reviewed publications.
Jo Seth-Smith
Senior Consultant

Jo is a project management specialist with expertise managing sexual and reproductive health and education programs with a focus on gender and social inclusion. At One South, Jo has supported several assignments in education, health, gender, advocacy and entrepreneurship. She has conducted multi-country evaluations for health and education projects and has supported project design activities, drawing on a range of participatory methods.

Andrés has led several multi-country evaluations, and has designed and facilitated remote and in-person training courses for young project management and MEL professionals. Andrés currently manages day-to-day operations of One South. He holds a MSc in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and a BA in Integrated Social Sciences with a specialization in research methods from Jacobs University Bremen.

Tariq has over 12 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning. He has led evaluations of programs for health, education, gender and private sector development programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He is currently on a leave of absence from One South but continues to advise the firm. Tariq specializes in strengthening MEL systems and fostering an evidence culture within philanthropic organizations. He has significant experience developing and coaching teams. He holds a MSc in International Relations Theory from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Politics and History (IPH), with a specialization in research methods from Jacobs University Bremen.
